2009-12-17 - ABB and SPT Group have signed a strategic collaboration agreement, to boost implementation of Integrated Operations in the oil and gas industry.
The agreement between the two vendors of products and services to the oil and gas sector entails that ABB will expand its portfolio within Integrated Operations, and that the SPT Group products will gain access to a larger market.
"This agreement is very important to both companies, but will first and foremost mean that our customers have easier access to our products and services, enabling them to exploit the potential of and extend the lifetime of their oil and gas fields to a much greater extent. We are delighted with the agreement," says Per-Erik Holsten, manager of ABB’s Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals business in Norway.
ABB and SPT Group will initially collaborate on the supply of products and services within control and monitoring of subsea installations, such as wells and production networks. The oil and gas industry uses more and more seabed facilities connected to offshore installations of land facilities, for which effective control and monitoring are vital success factors.
Integrated Operations (IO) is the name of a new technology, advanced production solutions and working processes used to be able to increase the degree of extraction of resources on the Norwegian continental shelf. By optimizing production processes, customers can reduce costs and thus extend production from existing fields.
ABB is a leading vendor of automation solutions for the industry, and supplies control systems for installations all over the world. SPT Group has know-how and experience within multiphase flow, real-time monitoring systems and production optimization. By joining forces, the partners represent a powerful force within Integrated Operations.
"We have worked with the SPT Group before and by formalizing the way we work, we hope to be able to introduce pioneering technology faster on the Norwegian continental shelf. The quicker our customers launch Integrated Operations, the more profitable it will be for them. The potential is vast, and we look forward to intensifying our partnership with the SPT Group," says Holsten.
STP Group's international profile and business activities will also open new doors for ABB's products within upstream oil and gas production, believes Tom Even Mortensen, CEO of SPT Group.
"By combining the technology and competences of ABB and SPT Group, we can supply complete solutions within Integrated Operations. Collaboration with leading vendors such as ABB is part of our partnership strategy, which makes our innovative and market-leading solutions accessible to operators on a wider basis," says Mortensen.
